Pediatric Advanced Life Support – Chicago PALS Classes

Audience

The PALS training program has been developed for healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, respiratory technicians and paramedics, who respond to infant and pediatric emergencies; professional healthcare providers from different departments, including the emergency department, the intensive care unit (ICU) and the critical care unit (CCU), whose work involves the care and management of infants and children.

Course Content

  • Updates and key changes in pediatric advanced life support as reflected on the 2010 AHA guidelines for CPR and ECC
  • Systematic infant and pediatric assessment
  • Effective 1 and 2 rescuer CPR delivery and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) techniques on children
  • Effective 1 and 2 rescuer CPR delivery on infants
  • Fluid bolus administration via vascular and intraosseous access
  • Respiratory emergency management
  • A thorough discussion and simulation on cardiac and respiratory shock cases
  • Team dynamics on effective resuscitation

    • Classroom-based lectures and skills demonstration conducted by an authorized PALS instructor

Key Benefits

Students who successfully complete the PALS class and all is components will receive a PALS provider card, valid for 2 years. 

Successful PALS completion entails:

    • Active and full participation in all learning stations
    • A minimum of 84% mark in the PALS written exam
    • Pass 2 PALS core case scenarios, 1 on cardiac shock and 1 on respiratory shock
    • Demonstration of effective team dynamics in providing the appropriate emergency medical treatment
    • Pass the 1 and 2 rescuer Basic Life Support (BLS) skills test on infants
    • Pass the 1 and 2 rescuer Basic Life Support (BLS) with Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on children

The PALS training class is accredited by the American Heart Association. 

$175 for initial course, $105 for renewal.
